Guardamar

Situated at the mouth of the River Segura, on the Mediterranean Sea, Guardamar del Segura is a town surrounded by pines, palms and eucalyptus trees. These trees were not planted here for solely aesthetic reasons, but to contain the continuously moving sand-dunes of the area, and to prevent the town from being buried in sand-storms, as happened more than once in the remote past. The low houses of the town, usually whitewashed, alternate with residential areas, hotels and holiday homes at the Pinada and Guardamar Beaches. Both of these are of the finest white sand, and are surrounded by thick pinewoods, which fill the air with their fragrance.
